Once again Core 10 and focusing on the Coming together of people around the world to Party at one spot. keeping the flowing style and fluid movement i wanted using both almost 2D and 3D parts of the sculpture with bigger depth creates this strong visual shape. This design is one of my preferred designs out of quite a lot in my next post i wish to show you its potential in different materials.
Same Sculpture however rendered in Core-10 Steel to represent the muddy aspects of a festival. Iv thought about this possibility for a material choice because of the connection with its target audience which know this is a huge part of a festival is getting muddy.
Whilst creating this shape i was trying to think about the target audience of which would be the festival goer, also thinking about how people put their hands in the air when enjoying a live piece of music. Using the same pattern method as before i created a sculpture which would be 6m tall and made from stainless.
Trying to still use shadows as a way of delivering some of the overall qualities of a sculpture i thought i try this shape however for me this doesn’t work as the shape has no connection with the over all aspect and reason for the sculpture.
I feel the shape doesn’t work however the congregation of the shapes in lap pattern format does due to it incorporating the logo however not working to an obvious or simple manor.
Using a flat pattern created in maya then rolled into tube like shapes i was able to then create a sculpture concept that would create interesting shadows using light as a method of delivery. However whilst thinking about this during the making of the concept i feel that too much 3D quality is missing.
Material: Core-10 Steel
Material top: Copper I was highly impressed with the the over all delivery of render from key shot on this particular model due to its highly realistic qualities i was able to make a realistic visual which other wise would of cost tens of thousands to make using a moulding process as sheet metal could not create such shapes.
The way the light gets carried along the wrinkles of the brass creating deep voids of light travelling down the shell of the sculpture. If i was to take this sculpture to final design by far these two materials would be the first choice for using.
This concept was created attempting a much more complex shape however trying to still incorporate the a flowing smooth nature to the design.
I feel the render with the slots through the model works really well as it would have a transparent element to it. and would create interesting shadows. The overall scale i decided on was 4m tall this would work on both small scale and large scale and if built for a festival large scale would be the better option due to the size of its location.
Here a 3D concept made as material test shapes. The concept at the top to create this visual I put the model into a factory environment then put a white back drop in front of it to be able to view its reflective qualities more clearly. The other textures are rush, stainless and brushed stainless.
Same model as my last post however using a copper material on a white back drop with low light just to dim the reflective finnish so i could get an idea of what the copper finish could look like it matt. This could be achieved using a fine grit sand paper of shot blasting. Reason for this was because polished copper scratches easily and i wanted to find an alternative finish that wouldn’t however could still keep the material.
Here a simple sculpture concept this concept came about because i needed to try the brass material texture in Keyshot on a simple design purely for its reflective qualities. Overall i feel this would make a great wall piece however for a large scale sculpture it doesn’t shout out to me enough. I wish to incorporate the cream logo within the sculpture however my design will have used the shape in unique and dynamic way this is why this does not work for an overall shape. However i did get to see how well brass would work maybe on a larger scale a more complex design would look visually interesting and with the shine incorporating the surrounding environment and lighting,
Here a shape created in maya and rendered in Keyshot, I choose a range of different material possibilities starting from the bottom copper: I felt the copper would reflect its environment extremely well however would scratch easily and i need to choose a robust material. The next one two i used a rust material option this would be produced by using the metal core-10 the reason for this choice is because i feel that it reflects the festival goers covered in mud and really connects with the target audience.
Above the others are purple anodised steel and steel with holes punched init. again the reflective ways of anodised steel would work really well in the light reflecting its environment, the metal with the holes punched init would reduce the weight of the sculpture significantly which would help with assembling on site however the over all look doesn’t really work for me.
Heres two shapes an abstract interpretation of two people holding hands. This would be built on a large scale, i feel that i have let my creative ideas lead me away from trying for a more 3D feel to the sculpture and the rest of the 3D visuals i will upload i will render in the choosen material for that concept to give a more realistic impression of what my sculptures could look like.
Here another sculpture concept, my inspiration for this particular shape was focusing on the coming together of people at festivals and the social aspects of the events so although simple i felt two cream logos hugging was corny but when placed in quite an abstract positioning it has a good aesthetic value. This would also be made from metal and around two meters + tall.
Here a model created using autodesk maya the first stages of trying to work using this form to create a more 3D overall visual. By simply manipulating the shape i created an almost sphere like form. which i feel could work really well if on a large scale with crass landscaped around it. this would be around two meters maybe more. Made from metal as its still early on in the design process i have not fully decided on the final material.
